Lakers reportedly want to trade for the star player of the Memphis Grizzlies.

Marcus Smart of the Memphis Grizzlies is reportedly attracting trade interest from the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers, according to Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports. However, Memphis has put an end to those negotiations.

“While several clubs — including the Milwaukee Bucks and Los Angeles Lakers, sources said — have phoned Memphis about obtaining defensive stalwart Marcus Smart, the Grizzlies have shut down any overtures for the veteran guard, sources said,” Fischer added.

Even though Smart has missed a large portion of the season due to injury, when healthy, he is still a fantastic defensive player who also produces some excellent offensive play. Since other key players have been sidelined due to injury, Smart, who is averaging a career-high 14.5 points per game this season, has been asked to take on more offensive responsibility for Memphis than he had originally planned.

Though he has only played in 20 games this season, Smart has unfortunately been one of the Grizzlies’ players to miss a lot of time. When it comes to injuries, Memphis has had a dreadful season. Not only is Ja Morant out for the whole campaign, but Desmond Bane has also missed many weeks of play, along with numerous other important players.

Notwithstanding Los Angeles and Milwaukee’s alleged interest in trading Smart to a contender this season, it appears Memphis is not interested in doing so.
