The Miami Heat continue to express a desire to acquire Cleveland Cavaliers All-Star Donovan Mitchell.

When discussing the Miami Heat organization, one of the most common topics is trade rumors.

Donovan Mitchell, the Cleveland Cavaliers’ standout, is the latest example. The four-time All-Star guard is averaging 27.2 points and 5.7 assists while shooting 45.5 percent. A recent investigation by journalist Marc Stein has sparked renewed interest in the subject.

“The Miami Heat, league sources say, continue to have bona fide interest in Mitchell despite Cleveland’s don’t-even-call-us approach,” Stein wrote in an email. “And could well choose to test that resolve with Mitchell proposals after Miami’s trade pursuits of Bradley Beal and Damian Lillard over the summer ended with neither player landing on South Beach.”

Mitchell may not want to join Miami’s core if he believes they are equal to the Cavaliers’ lineup. Not to mention, Cleveland has yet to shown an interest in moving on from him. Darius Garland and Evan Mobley are young talents, while Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo have more experience.

These organizations are unlikely to reach an agreement without the participation of guard Tyler Herro. This has been a controversy about the Heat for several years: Is Herro untouchable or replaceable?

If Mitchell is considered available, the front office’s response will determine whether or not this trade is viable.
